A New Beginning

This post is me officially declaring that the new era for Kindred Calling (and tbh myself) is here.

I’ve been in the branding and design world for over 9 years…!! Just pondering that for a moment.

There have been many a learning curve, plenty of self doubts, but they’ve been paired with meeting incredible women following their own soul calling, making life long friends and discovering a confidence I never knew was within me. It's not been plain sailing… but insane white water rafting is where it's at… I’m guessing ;)

This new direction has been calling me for a while.

Earlier this year I started painting again, after a 20 year pause. But getting started was hard, although I knew I really wanted to, in fact…I desperately needed to start painting again. It was calling my soul. But I was so unsure of my abilities, it wasn’t until I started to let go, and not be so precious about the outcome that I fell into it. And I fell in deeply. It helped me to climb out of a hole that I had been stuck in for a while. I felt like I was finally coming home to myself after so many years being completely lost. Allowing myself to be truly creative for nobody else but me was so freeing.

I started an account to share my journey on Instagram (you can follow along here if you like), and started to surround myself with other artists. I want to just immerse myself in this world, especially now in this digital world, making with our own hands can bring us back to our true selves. It's like a form of meditation.

I had been going through quite an emotional rollercoaster this past year that was not fun for anyone involved. And I had real doubts about whether I could continue running my beautiful little business. But I had an idea in the shower that landed with me and felt like a very timely gift from the universe.

When the idea that I could help artists with their websites and visual identities popped into my head, it seemed so obvious, but for some reason had avoided me for years! I want to help artists create online homes for their work with ease. Not something that is overwhelming and causes a tech headache. That's the idea behind the Squarespace templates I'm creating, designed specifically for emerging artists, they’re under £300, so make them super affordable. I want to create a space where artists can find resources that will genuinely help them. I’ve also created a small collection of simple logo templates in Canva, The Vault.

The thinking behind this new direction is just to help artists on their journey with the skills I have, whilst also pursuing my own art, so they can mingle together and become a lovely creative world.

You’ll also find that each month there is an artist spotlight interview on the blog, I discover so many artists, and this is just a little way of helping to shine a light on their work.

I know this is a little rambley, but I hope you stick around for this new season for Kindred Calling.
